Um mig og mínar helstu áherslur (ÍSL/ENG/POL)

Kæru vinir, ég er býð mig fram til oddvita VG í Reykjavík. Ég er róttækur umhverfissinni og vinstrimaður í húð og hár og vil leiða öflugu Vinstrihreyfinguna - grænt framboð í kosningunum í vor. Reykjavík er frábær borg en hún þarf nauðsynlega meira vinstri og meira grænt.
Ég er menntaður umhverfisfræðingur og hef starfað sem forseti Ungra umhverfissinna, sérfræðingur í endurheimt votlendis hjá Landgræðslunni, sérfræðingur í miðlun hjá Umhverfisstofnun, og sérfræðingur í umhverfis- og innviðateymi Sambands íslenskra sveitarfélaga. Einnig var mér treyst til að leiða lista VG í Reykjavíkurkjördæmi norður í síðustu þingkosningum. Ég tel að þessi reynsla myndi nýtast mér vel sem kjörinn fulltrúi VG í borgarstjórn.
Ég set þrjár megináherslur á oddinn:
Ódýrt húsnæði
Öflugar almenningssamgöngur
Réttlátt leikskólakerfi
Við þurfum að byggja fyrir fólk en ekki fjárfesta. Húsnæðis- og leiguverð er í hæstu hæðum og hundruð íbúða á höfuðborgarsvæðinu seljast ekki. Brestirnir eru víða og augljóst að markaðurinn er ekki að standa sig. Þá þarf borgin að stíga inn í og tryggja ódýrt húsnæði fyrir Reykvíkinga. Byggjum meira óhagnaðardrifið og félagslegt húsnæði þar sem ljósvist, hljóðvist og aðgengi að grænum svæðum, almenningssamgöngum og skólum ráða för.
Við þurfum öflugri almenningssamgöngur. Umferð borgarinnar einkennist af hnútum og töfum á álagstímum með tilheyrandi loftmengun því vistvænir samgöngumátar eru ekki nógu raunhæfur valkostur. Forgangsröðum fjármunum í öflugri almenningssamgöngur ásamt betri og öruggari hjóla- og göngustígum. Slík forgangsröðun dregur úr umferð, mengun og kostnaði fyrir alla borgarbúa.
Við þurfum réttlátt leikskólakerfi. Leikskólamál borgarinnar hafa verið í flækju undanfarið og þessa flækju leysum við með hærri launum starfsfólks, betri starfsaðstæðum, fleiri og betri leikskólabyggingum og nógu mörgum stöðugildum til að tryggja stöðugleika og öruggar aðstæður fyrir börnin. Þetta kostar en það kostar líka að verða af útsvarstekjum þegar ekki er boðið upp á leikskóla strax að loknu fæðingarorlofi.
Til viðbótar við þessar megináherslur vil ég aukinn kennslufræðilegan stuðning fyrir grunnskólakennara, öflugri inngildingu, ókeypis íslenskukennslu fyrir innflytjendur, betri þjónustu fyrir ungt fólk, umhverfisvænni og heilsusamlegri mat í mötuneytum skóla og stofnana, friðlýsa Skerjafjörð, og fjölga almenningsrýmum þar sem fólk getur hist og myndað tengsl.
Ég skynja ákall um endurnýjun úr fjölbreyttum áttum, innan sem utan VG. Kynslóðaskipti eru nauðsynleg í stjórnmálum og mikilvægt að þau eigi sér stað reglulega. Borgarbúar kalla eftir breytingum og við þurfum að svara því kalli með nýju fólki og ferskum hugmyndum.
Ég hlakka mikið til bandalagsins með Vori til vinstri og vona að ég geti treyst á ykkar stuðning. Fáum ferskt loft í borgina!

Dear friends, I am a proud environmentalist and leftist and would like to lead the Left Green Movement in Reykjavík in the elections this spring. Reykjavík is a great city but it desperately needs more left and green policies.
My academic background is environmental sciences and most of my professional experience has revolved around climate and nature conservation. I have been the chairperson of the Young Environmentalists, a specialist in wetland reclamation at the Icelandic Soil Conservation Service, a communications specialist at the Icelandic Environment Agency, and a specialist in the environment and infrastructure team at the Icelandic Association of Local Authorities. In addition, I was entrusted to be the Left Green’s lead candidate in one of the two Reykjavik constituencies in the last parliamentary elections. This experience would come in handy if I get the chance to serve as a Left Green city councillor.
I have three main policy priorities:
Affordable housing
Powerful public transport
Just kindergarten system
We need to build housing for people, not for profit. The pricing of housing and rent has skyrocketed at the same time as there are hundreds of vacant and unsold apartments in the capital region. The cracks in the system are expanding and it has become clear that the market forces are failing. In the face of such a situation, it is the duty of the city to step in to ensure affordable housing for the residents of Reykjavík. We must build more affordable, non-profit, and social housing where lighting conditions, acoustics, and access to green spaces, public transport, and schools are prioritised.
We need more powerful public transport. The traffic in the city can too often be characterised by knots, delays, and air pollution during rush hours because environmentally friendly transport has not been made a realistic choice. We must funnel funding towards better public transport as well as safer cycling and pedestrian infrastructure. Such prioritization will reduce traffic, air pollution, and costs for all residents of Reykjavík.
We need a just kindergarten system. The city’s kindergarten struggles have been growing and will only be solved with increased wages of kindergarten employees, better work conditions, more and better kindergarten buildings, and enough personnel to ensure stability and safe conditions for the children. This will cost, but the current lack of actions also comes at a great cost to the city when kindergarten spots are not secured for everyone as soon as parental leave ends.
In addition to these main policy priorities of mine, I would also like increased support for teachers, more powerful inclusion policies, free Icelandic courses for immigrants, better and more diverse support for young people, healthier and more environmentally friendly food in the cafeterias of schools and institutions, the conservation of Skerjafjörður, and increase the number of public spaces open to everyone to meet and make connections with other people.
I hear calls from various directions, within and outside of the Left Green Movement, for renewal in the city council. Generational change is a necessary part of politics and important that such change occur regularly. The residents of Reykjavík are calling for change and we must answer their call with new people and fresh ideas.
I look forward to the alliance with Vor til vinstri and hope I can rely on your support for first place. Let’s get some fresh air into the city council!

Drodzy przyjaciele,
jestem dumnym ekologiem oraz lewicowcem i chciałbym stanąć na czele Ruchu Zielonej Lewicy w Reykjavíku w nadchodzących wiosennych wyborach. Reykjavík to wspaniałe miasto, ale pilnie potrzebuje bardziej lewicowej i zielonej polityki.
Moje wykształcenie akademickie związane jest z naukami o środowisku, a większość mojego doświadczenia zawodowego dotyczyła klimatu oraz ochrony przyrody. Byłem przewodniczącym Młodych Ekologów, specjalistą ds. rekultywacji terenów podmokłych w Islandzkiej Służbie Ochrony Gleb, specjalistą ds. komunikacji w Islandzkiej Agencji Środowiska oraz specjalistą w zespole ds. środowiska i infrastruktury w Islandzkim Związku Samorządów Lokalnych. Ponadto powierzono mi rolę głównego kandydata Zielonej Lewicy w jednym z dwóch okręgów Reykjavíku w ostatnich wyborach parlamentarnych. Całe to doświadczenie byłoby bardzo przydatne, gdybym otrzymał szansę pracy jako radny miasta z ramienia Zielonej Lewicy.
Mam trzy główne priorytety polityczne:
przystępne cenowo mieszkalnictwo,
silny transport publiczny,
sprawiedliwy system przedszkolny.
Musimy budować mieszkania dla ludzi, a nie dla zysku. Ceny mieszkań i czynszów gwałtownie wzrosły, podczas gdy w regionie stołecznym znajdują się setki pustych i niesprzedanych lokali. Pęknięcia w systemie się pogłębiają i stało się jasne, że mechanizmy rynkowe zawodzą. W takiej sytuacji obowiązkiem miasta jest interwencja - po to, aby zapewnić mieszkańcom Reykjavíku przystępne cenowo i bezpieczne mieszkania. Musimy budować więcej dostępnych, non-profitowych i socjalnych mieszkań, w których priorytetem są dobre warunki oświetleniowe, akustyka oraz dostęp do terenów zielonych, transportu publicznego i szkół.
Potrzebujemy wydajniejszego i lepiej zorganizowanego transportu publicznego. Ruch uliczny w mieście zbyt często charakteryzuje się korkami, opóźnieniami i zanieczyszczeniem powietrza w godzinach szczytu, ponieważ ekologiczne środki transportu nie zostały uczynione realną alternatywą. Dlatego powinniśmy skierować środki finansowe na lepszy transport publiczny oraz bezpieczniejszą infrastrukturę rowerową i pieszą. Taka zmiana priorytetów zmniejszy ruch samochodowy, zanieczyszczenie powietrza i koszty ponoszone przez wszystkich mieszkańców Reykjavíku.
Potrzebujemy sprawiedliwego systemu przedszkolnego. Problemy przedszkoli miejskich narastają i mogą zostać rozwiązane jedynie poprzez podwyższenie wynagrodzeń pracowników przedszkoli, poprawę warunków pracy, budowę większej liczby lepszych placówek oraz zapewnienie wystarczającej liczby pracowników. Wszystko po to, aby zagwarantować stabilność i bezpieczeństwo dzieci. Jest to drogi projekt, ale obecny brak działań również generuje ogromne koszty dla miasta, gdy miejsca w przedszkolach nie są dostępne dla wszystkich dzieci po zakończeniu urlopu rodzicielskiego.
Poza tymi głównymi priorytetami chciałbym również wzmocnienia wsparcia dla nauczycieli, bardziej ambitnej polityki integracyjnej, bezpłatnych kursów języka islandzkiego dla imigrantów, lepszego i bardziej zróżnicowanego wsparcia dla młodzieży, zdrowszego i bardziej ekologicznego jedzenia w stołówkach szkolnych i instytucjonalnych, ochrony obszaru Skerjafjörður oraz zwiększenia liczby ogólnodostępnych przestrzeni publicznych, w których ludzie mogą się spotykać i budować relacje.
Słyszę zdania ludzi, zarówno wewnątrz, jak i poza Ruchem Zielonej Lewicy, wzywające do odnowy w Radzie Miasta. Zmiana pokoleniowa jest niezbędną częścią polityki i powinna następować regularnie. Mieszkańcy Reykjavíku domagają się zmiany - odpowiedzmy na to wezwanie nowymi ludźmi i świeżymi pomysłami.
Z niecierpliwością czekam na współpracę z Vor til vinstri i mam nadzieję, że będę mógł liczyć na wasze poparcie dla pierwszego miejsca. Wpuśćmy trochę świeżego powietrza do rady miasta!
